Mind Over Matter?
Depending on how often you catch the headlines online, in the newspaper or on TV, the economic outlook and construction industry forecast changes pretty frequently. Some days the news reports the recession is over and the economy is on the rise, yet the next day a report can make you seriously question if things are really getting better.
If you follow the headlines, they will make you crazy, and you may even be dragged down by them. Why not ignore the news and work harder? Sure, there’s not as much work out there as there was 3 years ago, but maybe we have to change our approach, our focus, our work ethic.
I saw it for myself when I worked for a homebuilder in the late 90s. The sales team had some great months for a year or so and then things started slowing down. After a few rough months, they realized that they couldn’t be just order takers anymore; they had to actually work those potential new home buyers to get them to buy a house. They had to re-think their approach and their selling tactics. The business was there, it was just a little more challenging
to get.
Don’t fall in the trap of allowing the economy to be an excuse. Put some blinders on and don’t listen to the news and make your business survive and even thrive. You control your business, not the news headlines.
Have you looked at your strategy and tactics lately?
